Scuba Shack is holding their second Scuba Camp at our store in Rocky Hill and at Brownstone Park in Portland. Pre-registration is required and space will be limited! The class starts on Monday, July 6 and will run every day through Sunday, July 13.
This program is open to kids, teenagers and adults, but you will need to be able to attend every day of this seven day program. Upon completion of the program, you’ll be certified as a PADI Junior, or Open Water Diver.
The following information is taken from our Open Water Diver class page, and we’ve updated it with information specific to Scuba Camp.
The course fee for this program will be $399 plus tax and it includes class materials and admission to Brownstone Park all week! (Yes, you’ll have time to enjoy all the activities at Brownstone Park! You’ll also need your own personal geat (see below).
Where do you start?
If you are in good health and comfortable in the water, you can earn your certification. If you are between 10 and 14 or have a child between these ages, there is a PADI Junior Open Water Diver program offered.
You will need to complete a medical history questionnaire prior to the start of the course. If you answer YES to any question, you will need to have your physician sign the form clearing you for diving activities before any in-water training. A physicians signature is required for all Scuba Shack students prior to completing open water dives. Since this is a one-week program, you’ll want to register and pick up the medical form as soon as possible to ensure it is signed by the first day of class.
In general, Scuba Shack instructors encourage kids to start diving between the ages of 12 and 14.
What does the course involve?
During the course, you’ll learn the basics of scuba, including diving fundamentals, equipment and techniques. You’ll complete a home-study program, at least five pool confined water dives, knowledge development sessions and four open water dives at Brownstone Park.
You’ll be completing the academic portion of the class at Scuba Shack in Rocky Hill and we will be providing transportation to Brownstone Park Monday through Friday for your confined water dives. That’s right, you’ll be diving and having fun every day at Brownstone Park!
Most of the course time is spent in the water, developing your scuba skills and giving you time to practice until you are comfortable.
What will I need?
You will need to provide your own personal gear including mask, snorkel, fins and boots. Your success in the course is directly related to the comfort, fit and quality of this equipment. Our professional staff will assist you in selecting from a wide variety of styles, colors and sizes to ensure your satisfaction.
Each student will need their own text book, dive tables full-action DVD and log book. If you are taking the class with family members, you can share a DVD.
How long will it take?
The class is performance based. What this means is that you move through the program at your own pace as you demonstrate mastery of the course skills.
Scuba Camp is scheduled over seven consecutive days, and your open water certification dives at the quarry will be scheduled for the last two days.
