It is with deep personal regret we inform our friends of John Gramegna’s death. He died unexpectedly on Friday, Dec. 4. John was a close personal friend, scuba diving enthusiast, and a true lover of everything life had to offer. He was instrumental in helping to give birth to Brownstone Exploration & Discovery Park, and the resurrection of Powder Ridge Mountain Park.
John’s family will welcome friends this afternoon 4-7 p.m. at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel in Wethersfield, and a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. at St. Maurice Church in Bolton tomorrow.
John Gramegna – Obituary
John J. Gramegna, 57, (Mr. J.J.G., The Lucky Dog) of East Hartford, died unexpectedly on Friday December 4, 2015 from a tragic accident. He was born in Hartford on December 19, 1957, son of the late Michael J. Gramegna and Betty Malinowski. John was a graduate of Rocky Hill High School, and was a successful real estate entrepreneur.
He owned and operated Serenity Real Estate Company as well as Powder Ridge Mountain Park, Brownstone Exploration & Discovery Park, Somewhere in Time Bed and Breakfast in Diamond Point, N.Y., Beso Lounge and Martini Bar in East Hartford as well as many other successful businesses in the Hartford area.
In addition to being a hard worker, dedicated father, grandfather and friend, John truly enjoyed riding his bike and traveling. He loved to ride his Harley and made friends wherever his ride took him. He lived by the spur of the moment – if a location came to mind, he immediately made arrangements to travel; he enjoyed all the world had to offer. John lived by many of life’s rules, one of his favorites was “He who dies with the most toys, wins.”
John will be greatly missed by his son, Michael P. Gramegna of Bolton; six adored grandchildren, Michael W. J. Gramegna, Nicholas Gramegna, Jordan Gramegna, Sierra Gramegna, Michael P. Gramegna, Jr. and John Joseph Gramegna, II; his two brothers, Donald Gramegna of East Hartford and Peter Gramegna of Rocky Hill; his step-father, Andy Malinowski and his wife Kathy of Rocky Hill and his sister, Janine Pavelec; his nephews, Austin and Aaron and his niece, Haley.
John will be especially missed by his friends and business associates: John Laraia, Valerie Duncan and Carola DeMaio. “Big John’s” loss will be truly felt by his boys: Jimmy, Joey, Jon and Jake DeMaio. John also leaves his special friend, Ruth Sanchez and his “side kick” Killer. In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by a brother, Michael P. Gramegna.
Funeral services will be Wednesday (December 9) at 10 a.m. at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Maurice Church, 32 Hebron Rd., Bolton. Burial will be in Bolton Center Cemetery, Bolton.
