Photos and notes from the Florida Keys dive trip

In late February, a group mostly made up of Scuba Shack staff, left for the sunny Florida Keys to spend a long weekend exploring the other 80 percent. This annual trip to Key Largo was led by Scuba Shack owner Ed Hayes who supervised all diving activities. Also along were instructors Ginamarie Hayes, Nick Civitillo, Gary Woods, Divemasters Fran Falagna and his wife Michelle, Justin Kirshner, and Nikki Byer. Mike Manzi and Sean Hoar also dove with us. Congratulations to Sean for successfully completing his PADI Open Water Course. We stayed at the Marriot Hotel which is right next door to Horizon Divers, who as always gave us great personal service and four fantastic days of diving.

We took an early flight out of Bradley and were in the water off of Key Largo by 1:30 in the afternoon! We did two shallow dives on Molasses Reef in warm water with good visibility which is always a treat for New England divers. The next few days were spent diving the wrecks of the Spiegel Grove and the Coast Guard Cutter Duane. Both are deep wrecks with the bottom at about 130 feet. Horizon Divers was able to supply the technical dive gear and needed gas mixes for the deep dives.

On Sunday we headed back to Miami with an afternoon detour to South Beach for lunch and relaxation before heading to Miami International Airport and home. Another year and another great Florida trip with good diving and good friends.
