A great weekend of training, Philippines update and more

Scuba Shack Weekly - Volume 6 No. 229.

It has started! Our 2023 diving season has officially started at Scuba Shack. Yes there has been a lot of activity around the shop with gear service, staff training and classroom work, but we made it back in the water this past weekend at the New Britain YMCA. And wow, it was quite the weekend of in-water training.

First, congratulations to Dawn, Blake and Tobias on completing their confined water work with Tom, Donna and George over the weekend. They are planning on heading someplace warm to finish up their certification dives.

On Saturday Mike and Bill along with George and Tom A did get their video work done for our revamped Core Principles class. We are targeting a March class to premier their new work. Stay tuned for more details about the dates.

Sunday was a very big day at the pool. I was in the water checking out the Recon fins from Ziegle that they sent me to evaluate. Look for an update on our YouTube channel soon. Jay’s Discover Scuba Class was awesome with five. Donna and Tom A assisted. Hopefully, they will be future divers. Ron did a skills refresher for Matt and Joe. Matt is headed to the Bahamas and Joe is coming with us to Bonaire. But wait there’s more. Alex did some private work with Nick in his Halcyon Infinity and long-hose configuration.

NEWS FLASH - We were able to add a few more rooms for the Philippines trip to Atlantis Dive Resort in Dumaguete. Now is your chance to come join us. We highly recommend that if you are planning to come along that you book very soon to ensure that you are able to get your flights arranged for the trip out to Manila. We can let you know what options are out there based on what others are doing, but they may not be available at reasonable prices if you wait. Our cut off date for registration is May 1st unless we fill all of our spots before then.

Our trip to Grand Cayman is really not that far off. Because of the change in location for this year’s Memorial Day trip from Nassau to Grand Cayman, we will be having an information session in early February. I am working with Peter to get the information together and to pick a date for the zoom meeting. We will be getting that word out soon. I can’t wait to get back to Sunset House - one of my all-time favorite dive destinations.

Until next week - enjoy the last few days of January 2023.

Jeff
