Scuba Shack Weekly - Volume 6 No. 247.
After a small taste of summer last week, it certainly took a turn toward spring. What happened to the sun and warm weather? I had to break out my hoodie. Then there is the smoke! I don’t think I’ve ever seen things this bad here in CT.
Way back in January, Monty started a new Divemaster class. With weekly lectures, pool instruction, some training in Bonaire, a trip to Florida for more instruction and practical work, an open water certification class and the dreaded gear exchange, our four candidates have now successfully completed their Divemaster certification. Congratulations to Sonja, Shea, Tom and Alfred for this major accomplishment. Welcome to the PADI professional ranks. You’ve earned it and we are proud to have you as part of the Scuba Shack staff.
On Saturday morning, Mike, Bill, Tom and Alfred headed up to Jamestown for several early dives at Fort Wetherill. The visibility wasn’t too bad and the water is starting to warm up a bit. We are out there diving!
This past weekend, Jay along with help from Alfred, Sonja and Shea finished up a confined water class in New Britain. Our six candidate divers completed all of their skills and confined water dives on Saturday and Sunday. They are now ready for the next step - open water certification dives.
I was also at the pool on Sunday to conduct another Discover Scuba program with Alfred’s assistance. It is always rewarding to see how people react to breathing underwater for the first time.
Ron finished up a private confined water course in Meriden over the weekend. Ned assisted.
Tonight, Jay is conducting a Nitrox class and then tomorrow is our Stonington Point Night Dive and Night Diver course. Bill and Mike are leading the efforts on this one and then on Saturday, Bill is back at the shop with the first of his three Underwater Photography workshops.
We are planning a couple of information sessions to talk about continuing education and training. Please check our calendar, or social media for more details.
Hope to see you out diving.
Take care,
Jeff
