Welcome Fall, Advanced Open Water, Confined Water and more

Scuba Shack Weekly - Volume 5 No. 212.

So it is officially Fall 2022. Shorter days, cooler temperatures and all things pumpkin spice. But just because it is now autumn doesn’t mean you need to stop diving. We still have several weeks of nice water temperatures up here in New England. We just need to keep any hurricanes from impacting our dive season.

Last weekend was especially busy. Bill took Tom and Sonja up to Jamestown where they did their Advanced Open Water course. The conditions on Saturday were not too bad as they did their Nitrox and Navigation dives. Then on Sunday, it got a little more challenging and with George and Alfred’s help, they finished up their Deep and Search and Recovery dives. Tom and Sonja had already completed their Peak Performance Buoyancy course.

The pool was busy as well. Jay’s open water class completed their five confined water dives over Saturday and Sunday. Peter assisted and they are now ready for Jamestown or a referral. In addition, Steve also conducted a combined confined water, drysuit and full face mask class for a new public safety diver. To wrap things up at the pool, Donna did a refresher class for one of our divers heading to Jamestown next weekend to finish up her certification.

Tonight I am conducting our AWARE Week Coral Reef Conservation course. Corals are so amazing and important. Coral reefs are in peril and we’ve got to try to do everything we can to protect them.

Meanwhile back at the shop, Donna and I started working on our 2023 travel schedule. In addition to the Philippines trip in October 2023, we are looking at several other trips including some changes to our normal routine. I will save that until we have all the details worked out. But standby, we will soon be listing our travel dates.

Don’t forget, Boston Sea Rovers is next weekend. Scuba Shack will be closed on Friday September 30 and Saturday October 1 as we support the Rovers. Hope to see you there.

Until next week, take care.

Jeff
