Scuba Shack's PADI Open Water Instructor Development Course (IDC) is 13-week course of study that fully prepares a PADI Divemaster to participate in the PADI Instructor Examination.

This program will consist of PADI online eLearning, presentations and workshops delivered by Scuba Shack’s faculty along with practical exercises and presentations in the classroom, confined water and open water. Upon completion of this course, you will be eligible to gain your PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor rating by completing the PADI Instructor Examination which is administered by PADI.
Prerequisites
- Minimum age to participate is 18 years old
- Be a PADI Divemaster, PADI Assistant Instructor or current leadership level with another recognized recreational scuba training organization
- Have been a certified diver for at least 6 months
- Completed 60 logged dives to commence the program (100 logged dives needed before taking the PADI Instructor Examination)
- Completed Emergency First Response Primary and Secondary Care training within 24 months
- Medically evaluated and cleared for scuba diving by a physician with 12 months.
- Documented proof of Open Water Diver, Advanced Open Water Diver and Rescue Diver

Grading
Students will be evaluated in accordance with the current PADI Instructor Candidate grading standards. Specific details will be provided to all students during orientation which will take place the first night of class.

Certification Requirements
Upon completion of the Scuba Shack PADI Instructor Development Course, students will be eligible to submit their application to take the PADI Instructor Examination (administered directly by PADI) as long at the applicant has completed 100 logged scuba dives. They must also be a certified Emergency First Responder Instructor. (Available separately from Scuba Shack.)
