The PADI Underwater Navigator course fine-tunes your observation skills and teaches you to more accurately use your compass underwater. What Qualifications Do I Need to Start?

If you’re a PADI (Junior) Open Water Diver (or qualifying entry-level certification) who is at least 10 years old, you can enroll in the PADI Underwater Navigator Specialty course.

How Does It Work?

You can start your PADI Underwater Navigator eLearning at any time. Then you can give us a call to schedule your three navigation dives where you'll learn the tools of the trade, including navigation using natural clues and by following compass headings. During three scuba dives, you’ll practice:

• Methods to estimate distance underwater.
• Compass navigation while making at least five turns.
• Marking or relocating a submerged object or position from the surface.
• Underwater map making.

Do I Need My Own Equipment?

Yes - In addition to all your basic scuba equipment you will need a compass and an underwater slate.

Is There Anything Else?

Yes - everyone who takes the PADI Underwater Navigator class must complete a Diver Medical Participant Questionnaire. Based on your responses, you may be required to have your physician clear you for recreational scuba diving. A fully completed medical questionnaire is an absolute requirement prior to any in-water activity with Scuba Shack.
