The Apeks MTX-R Octopus is an extreme-performance alternate second stage built to the same rugged standards as the MTX-R primary regulator. Based on military-grade designs for the U.S. Navy Experimental Dive Unit (NEDU), it is engineered to function flawlessly in near-freezing water at depths exceeding 60 meters.
FEATURES
- Extreme Cold Water Performance: Features a patented heat exchanger surrounding the valve mechanism. This dissipates the cold from gas expansion and draws in warmth from the ambient water to prevent ice build-up.
- Pneumatically Balanced: Delivers consistent, effortless airflow throughout the dive, regardless of tank pressure or depth.
- Simplified Design: Intentionally designed with no external controls (inhalation or venturi) to minimize the risk of accidental free-flow and allow the diver to focus on the dive.
- Rugged Protection: Outfitted with large elastomer bumpers on the top and sides to guard against impacts. The front cover includes a metallic insert for enhanced durability.
- High Visibility: Includes a bright yellow front cover and a matching 36-inch (91 cm) braided yellow hose for easy identification during emergencies.
- Mouthpiece: Features the patented Comfo-bite™ mouthpiece, which includes a palate bridge to reduce jaw fatigue and prevent dry palate.
- Configuration: The second stage is fully reversible, allowing for left-hand or right-hand gas supply depending on your preference.
- Hose: Equipped with a flexible braided nylon hose that offers better cold-water performance and less "tugging" than traditional rubber.
- Compatibility: Nitrox ready for use with oxygen mixes up to 40% out of the box.
