Night Diving in Stonington, Two Open Water Classes and more

Scuba Shack Weekly - Volume 6  No. 248.

Last Friday night, the Scuba Shack Team, led by Mike, Bill and Monty along with our newest Divemasters - Alfred, Tom, Shea, and Sonja were at Stonington Point for some night diving. In fact, the team conducted the three dives required for Night Diver certification. We welcomed five new night divers to the ranks. Even with the heavy rain, the team had a great time and they are now planning two more night dive events at Stonington Point on Friday August 4 and Friday September 1. Two opportunities to get some night diving in or complete a Night Diver certification.

On Tuesday, Ron and I started our open water course for the Meriden School District in partnership with Scuba Educational Alliance of Connecticut. Our three students are finishing up their first three confined water dives this week and we will finish up next week. We truly are fostering a new generation of ocean stewards. They are working hard.

Tonight, Ron and George are starting our second June open water class. This is a big class of eight. Tom and Sonja will be assisting over the weekend. 

Last week, we got a little bit of a surprise. We received our first Santi demo drysuit. This first suit is the Elite. Over the next two weeks we expect to have our other two demo drysuits - Emotion Plus and Elite Plus. Our goal is to begin to offer drysuit certification classes with the demo drysuits very soon. 

And if that isn’t enough, we also recognize that with our longer pool sessions, people do get a little chilled. While we do have a number of shorties for pool use, we decided to beef up this fleet with 10 more 3 mm long-sleeve jackets for use during confined water. Comfort is paramount and we now believe we can get everyone into appropriate thermal protection when we are doing confined water training. 

As you can see, it has shaped up to be a very busy 2023 dive season here at Scuba Shack and I want to thank everyone who has supported the dive shop.
