What’s the difference between Foundations & Principles of Diving and what’s been learned in your Open Water Scuba Certification and other classes?
Foundations and Principles is designed to introduce and build a solid foundation of skills and knowledge that will be required for mastery of nearly every aspect or area of interest in scuba diving
The concepts and skills introduced in this course will be reinforced using confined and open water demonstration and practice with subsequent video review after each session

With approximately 16 hours of class and pool time you will expand your understanding and experience with the foundational components of scuba diving. This class focuses on -
- Equipment and preparation
- Buoyancy, Trim and Propulsion
- Turns and Maneuvering
- Dive Planning, Redudancy and Teamwork
By completeing this class you will gain confidence with your gear, it's correct configuration, develop your buoyancy & control techniques, plus you will gain knowledge & experience with a variety of propulsion methods.
We video all pool sessions for review with your instructor to follow your progress and obtain personal feedback formulated specifically for you!
Class size is limited to ensure that you meet your goals.
What Qualifications Do I Need?
To gain the most value from this training, you should be a PADI Open Water Diver (or qualifying certification from another organization).
Minimum age: 15
What Equipment Will I Need?
Mask, Snorkel, Fins and Boots (Note: a stiff, fin such as the Apeks RK-3 or Fourth Element Tec Fin)
Tanks and Weights are included in the cost.
This class is taught in a backplate & wing BCD, with a long-hose regulator configuration. A wetsuit is highly recommended. If you do not own a backplate and wing or back-inflate BCD, Scuba Shack's Rental Program can provide you with the required gear for an additional fee. if renting, plan to pick up your gear on the day before pool sessions return it by the end of business on the following Tuesday. Is There Anything Else?
Yes - everyone who takes the Scuba Shack Foundations PADI Specialty class must complete a Diver Medical Participant Questionnaire. Based on your responses, you may be required to have a physician clear you for recreational scuba diving. A fully completed medical questionnaire is an industry requirement prior to any in-water, instructional activity.
