Big training weekend in the books, plus a lot more

Scuba Shack Weekly - Volume 6 No. 256.
Last week when I was publishing Scuba Shack Weekly, little did I know that a big piece of our past would be wiped out. I am talking about Lahaina Town on Maui. We spent a lot of time in Lahaina over the years, visiting shops, dining out or just enjoying our time under the Banyan Tree. It is now all gone. Also gone is Lahaina Divers, our go-to dive shop. Their shop and two boats Dominion and Dauntless were destroyed. This is very difficult to comprehend. Between 2005 and 2017 we spent many days diving with them. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of the residents of Maui as they recover and rebuild.
Last weekend was a big training weekend for Scuba Shack as we conducted both an advanced open water course and open water certification dives. Jay and Tom J. were up at Lake George for open water dives. Congratulations to Maria, Andrew, Talon, and Aiden on finishing this first step in their underwater adventure. Meanwhile, Bill and Mike along with help from Shea, Tom A. and George conducted an advanced open water class at Brownstone Sports Adventure Park. Well done to Stephen, Pat, Steven, and Sabrina.
Tonight, Bill is starting another confined water class. After finishing up their classroom session, they will be back for equipment training on Saturday, followed by their two pool sessions this weekend at the Middlesex YMCA.
We will also be starting the first part of our drysuit certification course this weekend with fitting, knowledge review and pool work. Plus there will be additional activity at the pool with some practice and discover scuba.
Last week we also heard from Marisa and Trip - two of our newest divers who recently were diving in Belize. Marisa sent us some pictures of their amazing dives. Great to see folks getting out there and enjoying the underwater world.
And don’t forget to mark your calendar for the Stonington Night Dive - Friday, September 1.
Until next week - good diving.
