Scuba Shack Weekly – Volume 2, Number 32
This week we are making all of our preparations for our next adventure to Dutch Springs – Aug. 9 to 11. The crew will be leaving early Friday morning and making our way down to stake out our spot. The trip will feature the PADI Deep Diver specialty along with our second DIR Intro course. This will be Scuba Shack’s fifth trip to Dutch Springs this year. I think we like it down there.
Connecticut has become the latest state to be phasing out plastic bags. Effective Aug. 1, 2019 retailers making sales of tangible personal property are required to collect 10 cents per single-use plastic bag. I am a big proponent of this legislation. After June 30, 2021 single-use plastic bags will be banned. One more step in protecting the environment and marine life.
There is a nice little article with an accompanying video on Dive New Wire that features Stream2Sea founder – Autumn Blum. Autumn is a scuba diving chemist based in Key Largo who developed the product line. We are proud to be one of the more than 1,200 retail locations providing this incredibly important product.
I always like to come across the odd-shaped swimmers when diving. A very cool looking fish is the Honeycomb Cowfish. It is a member of the boxfish family. The unique honeycomb pattern on their body along with the spine above each eye distinguished them from trunkfish. Believe it or not, they may make it up as far north as New Jersey. This picture was taken last October in Turks and Caicos.
Thanks for tuning in,
Jeff
