Happy St. Patrick’s Day to everyone. It seems appropriate that this day is when everyone dresses in green. Spring is only a couple of days away and soon we will all see things turning green. I really did not appreciate that white stuff (snow) that we had earlier in the week. One thing you can count on here in New England is that the weather sometimes plays tricks on you and when you think you are out of the woods, here it comes.
Tonight we start another open water class here at the shop. This is a full class and Tom will be leading our six prospective divers through their confined water dives. We are seeing a lot of interest in our classes this year. Our April and May classes are full. In June, we have two classes available for sign-up. If you are thinking about taking the plunge this year or know someone who wants to become a scuba diver, now is the time to act. Our classes do tend to fill up.
Mike and Bill started their Core Principles class on Saturday. It was a full day starting with a detailed session at the shop on a number of aspects related to proper buoyancy, trim and propulsion including a detailed discussion on gear and equipment configuration. Then it was off to the pool where they worked on buoyancy and control. The class will resume this Saturday with a review of the in-pool video and a final pool session.
Here is some great news from Scuba Educational Alliance of CT (that is the non-profit that I created to foster a new generation of ocean stewards). We are working with the Meriden School District to offer Discover Scuba to high school students at both Platt and Maloney High Schools this spring and then conduct an open water class for four of their students in June. We hope by introducing these students to the wonders of scuba diving that we will also empower them to become ocean stewards. Any support you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Until next week - take care.
