Huge Open Water Weekend, Coral Reef Conservation, Sea Rovers and more

Scuba Shack Weekly - Volume 5 No. 213.

I hope that you are enjoying the great New England weather this time of year. Summer is behind us and it is time to break out the sweat shirts and sweaters. We certainly had our taste of the cooler weather over the weekend when we were at Bigelow Hollow for open water certification dives. Even though Hurricane Fiona was up towards Canada, the wind from the storm made it pretty chilly.

We had to alter our plans for open water dives last weekend. The marine forecast for Jamestown was ominous and we chose to move the dives to Bigelow Hollow in Union. The state park is a really picturesque site. The logistics are a little more challenging and the bottom has a lot more silt than Jamestown, but we made it work. We had a HUGE open water weekend with eleven new divers gaining their PADI Open Water Diver certification. Congratulations. A big thank you to all of the staff who helped over the weekend.

Last week, I also conducted the AWARE Coral Reef Conservation course. We did this by Zoom and had participants from Rhode Island and San Francisco along with several of our staff. It was a great night of dialog and discussion on the value and peril being faced by corals around the world.

Monty and Mike are leading a group to Cape Ann on September 29 for a double dip on the Poling off of Cape Ann Diver II. This dive kicks off Boston Sea Rovers for Scuba Shack.

The shop will be closed Friday, September 20 and Saturday, October 1 as we head up to the Boston Sea Rovers clinic. There is a lot going on up there. It is worth making the trek up to Danvers, MA.

Spoiler alert! Our travel schedule is shaping up. Standby for more details on Bonaire, Saba and Grand Cayman.

Until next week - take care.

Jeff
