Scuba Shack Weekly - Volume 5 No. 188.

We did it! We got our first dive of the season this past weekend. The Scuba Shack team headed down to Stonington Point on Sunday for our “We’re No Fools” dive in honor of April Fools Day. Okay, we were a couple of days late, but hey, we were working at the shop. I was joined in the water with Bill and Zach, while Monty, George and Ned comprised the other team. It was a great check out dive in preparation for the 2022 dive season. We had some very good visibility at about 12 to 15 feet. The spider crabs seemed surprised to see us in the water so early in the season. The weather cooperated and we finished up just ahead of the rain.

The IDC continued for Bill and Jay on Saturday. Monty’s lecture on standards and procedures preceded another pool session where Mike took the guys through more in-water training. George and Mary also participated as part of their divemaster training. I was also at the pool conducting a skills refresher for Adrienna and Joe as they are getting ready for a 10 day Hawaiian vacation and plan to dive with the mantas on the Big Island and then hit the Cathedrals off of Lanai. It was great to connect with them again.

On Monday, Matt and I went up on a reconnaissance mission to Bigelow Hollow in Union, CT. We are going to be diving there on Sunday April 10. When you enter the park off of Route 171, take the park road all the way to the end where you’ll find the parking lot for the boat ramp. There is a gravel path that leads down to the dive site. It is a bit of a walk but nothing we won’t be able to handle. We plan on having a cart to move some gear, and could always use more if you have one and are planning to attend. There are plenty of picnic tables for us to set up our gear and it should be a great day of diving.

It’s Spring - Come Dive with Us.

Take care,

Jef
