Well it is hard to believe that this is the last week in July. It seems like just a few weeks ago we were just thinking about starting the dive season. Now we are smack in the middle of Shark Week. There is still a lot of diving to be done. Late summer and fall can be really great times for Northeast diving.

Congratulations to our seven new PADI open water divers. We had spectacular weather in Jamestown and the water temperature was right around 70 degrees. Our divers had a great time and are now ready to start their underwater adventures. We will be back in Jamestown later in August for some more certifications and maybe get to see some tropical fish who may have made their way up north on the Gulf Stream.

There is still time to sign up for the DIR Introduction course at Dutch Springs on Saturday, Aug. 10. We would like to conduct a fitting and orientation on Tuesday night Aug. 6. Please check out the details on the website and call the shop to reserve your spot.

Speaking of Shark Week, did you know that it is television’s longest-running summer event – according to the Discovery Channel. It all started on July 17, 1988 and is now broadcast in more than 72 countries. The original intent was devoted to conservation and correcting misconceptions about sharks. It was also a way to draw viewers to this new network. Well it has certainly changed over the years and I will leave it to you to decide if it has been for the better.

The SECONN Common New England species ID slates are in. They came out very nice and provide that quick reference at the dive site like Fort Wetherill. We have them at the shop. Stop by and take a look.
