Scuba Shack Weekly – Volume 4, Number 4

Well that was certainly a very cold weekend. We have been a bit spoiled by the above normal temperatures. The wind chill was brutal. That’s New England.

I finished up an open water class over the weekend. Congratulations to Kate, Ryan and Eric for coming through with flying colors. Thanks to Zach for helping me with the logistics and for getting some underwater shots of our divers. It is always great to get the first class under our belts. Good luck to Eric when he heads to Florida in February for his certification dives and Kate on her trip to Belize for her dives in a couple of months. Ryan will be with us in Jamestown in May.

Last week I had the opportunity to attend the Coral Restoration Foundation monthly presentation. The first session of the year was conducted by Jessica Levy, Restoration Program manager and she outlined all the activities planned for 2021. They have a lot of things going on including coral collections from electrical structures, a new nursery, Key West expansion and more. They have a goal of outplanting 40,000 corals this year including Staghorn, Elkhorn and Boulder coral.

The great organization doing some great work "Where Divers Dare" is a book written by Randall Peffer. The subtitle is The Hunt for the Last U-Boat. I just finished reading it. The book followed the team of divers that discovered the U-550 that was sunk in April 1944 off the coast of Nantucket.
