The calendar still says it is spring but we’ve certainly had a nice taste of summer this past week. We deserve it! The great weather has come at a great time as we look to head up to Fort Wetherill this weekend to conduct our first open water certification dives of the year and welcome new scuba divers to our wonderful underwater world.
This past weekend, Alex and Donna conducted the five confined water dives for our May class. Congratulations to Allison, Nancy, Chase, Robert and Nick for a job well done. They are now one step closer to joining our community of scuba divers.
I was also at the pool this weekend and conducted several refreshers for some of our divers heading to their open water certification dives soon. They had been out of the water for a while, so George and I helped them get ready by taking them through all the skills they will do once we get to Fort Wetherill.
Last week we got a visit from Penny who lives out on Vanuatu (that’s way out in the South Pacific). Penny did her confined water training with me last year before moving out to the islands where she did her open water certification dives. That’s pretty cool. She told us all about the incredible dives she has done out there. Penny is back here in CT visiting family and will be heading back out to the South Pacific in a few weeks with her new regulator. It was great to see her and catch up on her adventures.
In case you missed it, in celebration of our 45th anniversary, we’ve put the Scuba Shack Logo Mug on sale for May. You can order online and use the code 45YEARS at check out and get your 10% discount. Check it out.
We will be off to Jamestown this weekend to conduct our first open water certification dives of the year. If you happen to be up there diving, please stop by and say hello. We’ll have our canopies, trailer and Scuba Shack van there, so you can’t miss us. It is always great to get our first group of new divers certified and ready for their next adventure.
While we are up in Jamestown, SECONN will be conducting their annual swap meet on Saturday May 21. The swap meet will be at the Custom House Maritime Museum in New London located at 150 Bank Street. The event runs from 10 AM to about 1 PM. We were hoping to attend this year but our schedule had us doing our first open water dives.
Peter is very excited about the upcoming Nassau trip. The group will be heading out in less than a week for some great diving with Stuart Cove. Donna and I aren’t able to make it down this year, unfortunately. This is a great trip and I know our group will have a fantastic time. We’ll keep our fingers crossed that they will have some good weather. If you wonder what the trip is like, check out last year’s Nassau 2021 Video.
It has been a busy spring here at Scuba Shack and we want to thank everyone for your continued support as we celebrate our 45th anniversary.
Until next week, take care everyone.
