We are all saddened by the news from California regarding the dive boat fire and so many of our fellow divers who lost their lives on Conception. An unthinkable tragedy.
In an effort to help these families, DAN has joined with PADI, SSI, TDI/SDI, NAUI, Scubapro, DUI, the Women Divers Hall of Fame, PSI-PCI, California Diving News and Undercurrent to establish a fund and seek donations from anyone who wishes to contribute. If you would like to donate, please visit DAN.org/TheConception. All donations are fully tax-deductible, and 100 percent of the money raised will go directly to the families. This past weekend we completed another open water class with Joel and they will be doing their open water dives later this month. Unfortunately we had to cancel the night dive at Stonington Point. There was this little storm called Dorian out there causing some issues.
The northern Bahamas took an unbelievable beating during Dorian. Our thoughts go out to all those impacted. Our friends have indicated a good relief organization to donate to is HeadKnowles. The people displaced from Grand Bahamas and the Abacos do need help.
After a long wait, we now have the Apeks VX1 mask (in black) in stock – limited quantity.
We heard from Ivan and his son Michael about their recently completed trip to Key Largo. Ivan has been diving with us for several years and Michael finished his open water training in June. They had a fantastic time with Rainbow Reef, having completed 15 dives over four days including a wreck, drift and night dive. Rainbow Reef was impressed with how great Michael did for a brand new diver. Michael and Ivan are also veterans of Dutch Springs.
All preparations are underway for our last scheduled trip to Dutch Springs this weekend. We have certainly had a great time making the journey down to Bethlehem this year. We are looking forward to some great weather and some great diving. Still time to make your plans to come join us.
In my podcast last week I talked about ocean noise pollution and its impact on whales and dolphins. Cruise ships are contributors to this noise but also a host of other problems and not just for whales. There is an article in the latest edition of Hakai Magazine titled Leviathans in the Harbor. Read or listen to the article right here. It is pretty powerful stuff.
Thanks for tuning in,
Jeff
