Winter Roller Coaster, Open Water Starting and more

Jeffrey Cinciripino   Feb 15, 2024

Scuba Shack Weekly - Volume 7 No. 279.

Are you enjoying the winter roller coaster of weather? How about a 63 degree day on Saturday followed by a snowstorm on Tuesday forcing us to close. As we know here in New England, our weather can change dramatically in a short period and as we know here in Connecticut, February can bring some very significant snow. Now about that groundhog - did he really say an early Spring?

Last Thursday night, I made my way up to Danvers, MA for a Boston Sea Rovers planning session. This year marks the 70th show and it looks like it is going to be big. The exhibitor floor is full. The daytime seminars are packed with a lot of big names and the film festival will offer some fantastic work. The show runs Saturday March 16 and Sunday March 17.

The shop was very busy this past Saturday. Perhaps the warm weather and the taste of Spring had folks thinking about diving. Also, this is the time of year that a lot of people head to someplace warm to either snorkel or dive. It was a great day to get out and get ready for an upcoming class or vacation. A big thanks to everyone who came by.

Tonight our first open water class of 2024 is set to start. This is a full class of eight students with Bill and Alex leading the group. They will be back on Saturday morning for more classroom work followed by their confined water dives Saturday and Sunday afternoon.

The latest episode of Scuba Shack Radio is now available. Listen to episode 131 here for my discussion on a recent training agency survey.

And finally, here is an update on workshops being offered at this year’s Boston Sea Rovers show. Monty and I will be doing our dive computer workshop on Saturday morning, Bill is also doing a photography workshop on Saturday morning. Then on Sunday morning I will be teaming up with Boston Sea Rover, Rob Robison for a workshop devoted to Writing for the Dive Community. Check out all the workshops here.

Until next week - take care,

Jeff
