Take the PADI Underwater Naturalist Specialty course and you'll see new things, even on the most familiar scuba diving sites. Why? Because when know more about symbioses, underwater ecology, and aquatic plant and animal habitats, you notice behaviors and see creatures you may have previously missed. Learn more about the local ecosystem and take a closer look on your next scuba diving adventure.
What Qualifications Do I Need to Start?
You must be a PADI (Junior) Open Water Divers who are at least 10 years old are eligible to take the Underwater Naturalist Specialty course.
How Does It Work?
After registering for the course, you will get your PADI Underwater Naturalist manual as which time you will need to read and complete the knowledge reviews prior to our two dives (typically at Fort Wetherill in Jamestown, RI)
Do I Need My Own Equipment?
Yes - you will need to your basic scuba equipment. Proper exposure protection is necessary for New England. You should also have a slate and pencil available to record your observations.

Is There Anything Else?
Yes - everyone who takes the PADI Underwater Naturalist class must complete a Diver Medical Participant Questionnaire. Based on your responses, you may be required to have your physician clear you for recreational scuba diving. A fully completed medical questionnaire is an absolute requirement prior to any in-water activity with Scuba Shack.
