Whether purpose-sunk as an artificial reef for scuba divers, or lost as the result of an accident, wrecks are fascinating windows to the past. Ships, airplanes and even cars are fascinating to explore and usually team with aquatic life. Each wreck dive offers a chance for discovery, potentially unlocking a mystery or spying something others have missed. The PADI Wreck Diver Specialty course is popular because it offers rewarding adventures while observing responsible wreck diving practices.

What Qualifications Do I Need To Start?

If you’re at least 15 years old and have earned a PADI Adventure Diver certification or higher, you can enroll in the Wreck Diver Specialty course.

How Does It Work?

You can start your PADI Wreck Diver eLearning at any time. You can then register online with Scuba Shack or contact us to discuss other options. During four dives you’ll learn:

  • Safety considerations for navigating and exploring wrecks.
  • Surveying and mapping a wreck.
  • Using penetration lines and reels to guide exploration.
  • Techniques to avoid kicking up silt or disturbing the wreck and its inhabitants.

Do I Need My Own Equipment?

Yes - in addition to your basic scuba equipment you will need a dive light to see into the wreck, a slate and underwater compass for mapping and navigation, a line, reel and surfact marker buoy.

What Do I Do Next?

  1. 1. Purchase your PADI Wreck Diver eLearning here.
  2. 2. Register online for the next class.
  3. 3. Get all of your gear together.
  4. 4. Be ready to explore.

Is There Anything Else?

Yes - everyone who takes the PADI Wreck Diver class must complete a Diver Medical Participant Questionnaire. Based on your responses, you may be required to have your physician clear you for recreational scuba diving. A fully completed medical questionnaire is an absolute requirement prior to any in-water activity with Scuba Shack.
